Cameron State Forest MAPPWD Trail to Cameron Meadows - NYS DEC Region 8

This MAPPWD trail is designed for 4WD trucks and ATVs. It leads through the forest to large meadows where riders may hunt or enjoy the views. Two trail offshoots,which are more suitable to walking or an ATV, lead to beautiful scenic views. The trail is only mowed once each year so it is rough with occasional fallen trees in your path. The trail is accessed by MAPPWD permit through the DEC. Camping is permitted. No bathrooms or water. Hunting from your vehicle requires a separate permit.

Sims Store Museum is a replica of the original Sims' canal store which was located on the Canal about 2 miles east of the present location. The original site was closer to Gere Lock and Belle Isle. There it took advantage of the fact that the boats had to stop there before entering the lock and/or stopping at Belle Isle.

Camp Eastman is a large park which offers many different opportunities for inclusive play and events. There are 3 cabins which can be rented for events like birthday parties, 2 larger buildings rented for similar purposes, public restrooms, inclusive playground, splash pad, and 4 soccer fields. According to the agency website, "A wide range of leisure-time programs are offered on a seasonal basis for residents of all ages. Facilities, owned, managed and maintained by the Bureau of Parks and the Recreation Department, are available for meetings and other activities."

The Camp Santanoni Historic Area is an open place with a unique opportunity for recreation. The property consists of 3 major complexes, and a variety of trails. Starting from the first main complex (the gate house complex), the Newcomb Lake Road trail goes on for about 4.7 miles. Along the trail, there is the Farm Complex and a few other trails branching off to other locations outside of the Santanoni Preserve. At the end of the Newcomb Lake Road trail, is the Main Complex. The Main Complex is one of the many Great Camp complexes. Many are privately owned, but this camp is luckily open for the public to use. There are 7 primitive camping sites around the Main Complex.

According to their website: Canoe-Picnic Point State Park is only reachable by boat, offering a quiet camping experience in a wooded area with plenty of dock space available. The CareOne at Concord outdoor patio is a wonderful place to enjoy the sun, spend time with family, and attended a cookout. From the back parking lot, it is easily accessible to enter the area. The location has indoor bathrooms that accommodate those in wheelchairs. When entering the facility from the front, please stop in at the reception desk in the lobby before heading outside. All entrances have buttons to open the doors, and ramps next to the stairs. The patio is fenced in, and the fences have a latch that will need to be undone manually.
