New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYC Parks) is an agency that maintains 1,700 parks and recreation facilities throughout all five boroughs of New York City.
Lincoln Terrace / Arthur S. Somers Park is a 21-acre public park in Brooklyn serving the Crown Heights and Brownsville communities. It is one of two local parks named after Abraham Lincoln. The first parcel of the park was purchased between 1895-1897. Over the decades, it has undergone numerous renovations and improvements to expand its accessibility features. The park hosts an accessible playground with transfer platforms and ground-level play features, bathrooms with a 5-foot turning radius and grab bars, numerous benches, accessible tennis courts, security lighting, and more.
NYC Parks is continually working to make its 29,000 acres of parks, public events, and recreational programs more inclusive and accessible to all New Yorkers, including those with disabilities. This includes accessible facilities such as Adaptive Hubs (fully accessible recreation centers) and adaptive events/programs offered at accessible locations. More than 500 of its 1,000 parks have been updated in the last 10 years to become more accessible with allotted funding. The website lists contact information for the Language Access Coordinator and ADA Accessibility Coordinator/Disability Services Facilitator.
