Summary

The "Holmdel Public Library and Learning Center" operates under the auspices of the Monmouth County Library. As one of twelve branches in the county system, the Holmdel Library adheres to the agency mission of being "...a place to dream, a place to learn, a place to mingle, and a place to realize one's potential" (Monmouth County Library, 2019). Newly constructed and housed in the recently renovated Bell Works complex (formerly Bell Laboratories and Lucent Technologies), the library has many features that make it a wonderful recreation destination.

Some helpful information for individuals with disabilities and their friends/family:

(1) It is physically accessible.
The Holmdel Library is located entirely on one-level, offering a meandering pathway of polished concrete as a central avenue for reaching different literary sections. In addition to aisles of books, periodicals, and computer stations, the library also houses two activity rooms (children and adult), three small study rooms, and one large study room. There is also an accessible bathroom (male/female stalls) located in an adjacent hallway, with internal doorway access.

(2) There are a variety of activities and programs offered.
Please consult the Holmdel Library directly for up-to-date information. Previous and ongoing programs have included a visiting author series, yoga classes (chair/standing), children's story-time, informational exchange, and lecture opportunities.

(3) Access to additional books and services.
As part of a larger library system, patrons also have access to an interlibrary book-loan program, as well as other activities facilitated through nearby branches (i.e. movie nights, book clubs, board games, and crafts-based activities).

(4) Proximity to shops and restaurants.
The Bell Works complex, where the Holmdel Library is housed, offers an assortment of different on-site shops and restaurants. Patrons can get lunch, visit stores, or congregate in an impressive atrium with high glass ceilings and open seating spaces. Although "Bell Works" has not been included as a primary focus for this assessment, information about additional recreational opportunities can found via the complex's main website: https://bell.works.
