Comments

Spin Classroom: The door to the classroom is propped open before class so students do not have to use the knob/door. The route to the spin classroom is through the main gym. Sometimes patrons place equipment in the way of travel but staff are constantly monitoring this and moving equipment back into place. The facility accommodates adaptations in the classroom for the Soldier Recovery Unit. They have transferred modified bikes from other facilities to their spin classroom, such as recumbents and hand cranks so classes can be more inclusive. All spin bikes are mobile and can be moved by the instructor to accommodate accessibility in real-time. This allows for the use of over 30 bikes if needed. During class, if participants have sensory sensitivity the strobe lighting, black lights, and disco ball effects are not used. Sound is adjusted in real-time in each class based on participant feedback. Classes vary in length based on the skill level of participants. Participants are reminded throughout the class by the instructor how to safely dismount the bike if they need a break. The instructor does a safety brief before each class to review the use of equipment and expectations of that day’s class material. The instructor does a custom bike fit for each participant before class to accommodate any modifications they may need.
