Summary

The North Mountain Park Nature Center (NMP) is a branch of Ashland Parks and Recreation. North Mountain Park consists or 14 acres of Natural Area and the Nature Center is open 5 days a week, 8:30am to 4:30pm. The Center offers activities for all ages in the areas of stewardship, recreation and education.

The Nature Center exhibits include a wall-to-wall mural and educational displays about local natural and cultural history. Children love to play with the Exhibit Room's puppet theater, fairy tree house, animal tracks, farmer's market and natural blocks. The Discovery Lab exhibit includes a magnifying closer-look station, curiosity cabinet and an i-pad listening station.

The North Mountain Park Natural Area has a small network of wood chipped trails which meander through the park, a thriving garden and garden pavilion, a sandbox and a new Nature Play Area. The park has two entrances to Bear Creek, a small amphitheater and several play structures throughout the park.

Recreational opportunities are provided through the Center’s indoor exhibits, Nature Play Area, demonstration gardens and interpretive trails. Education opportunities are available to students and community members. Community programs focus on local natural and cultural history, as well as sustainable living practices. K-5 School Program field trips and Service Learning programs teach appreciation and stewardship of the natural world, and focus on the history and ecosystems of the Rogue Valley. The Nature Center supports students and citizens accomplish habitat restoration projects in the park and runs a robust volunteer gardening program.
