Agency Mission and Values

Comments/additional information about agency mission:
Although there was no written mission, vision, or values either on paper or on the library’s or the Mid Hudson Library System’s website that made any statement about inclusion for people with disabilities, in speaking with the Assistant Director, Roger Cohn, expressed a wish to accommodate everyone. The library is receptive and open to all individuals and will attempt to accommodate them to the best of the staff and systems abilities. It was noted amongst hiring and job performance materials that they are an equal opportunity employer and state that they do not discriminate against anyone with a disability.

Comments/additional information about agency staff:

The library does not have a point person at this time, but they did state that they would contact the main organization that they are a part of: The Mid Hudson Library System which is based out of Poughkeepsie, NY and runs libraries across Dutchess County. The NYS Library System is also a resource for you and the library as well.

Disability awareness and inclusion is not a part of staff orientation, but the Assistant Director said that staff members are sensitive to all people's needs.

Comments/additional information about agency communication and marketing:
Overall, the library does not have a wide variety of communication devices available, but by calling ahead they may be able to use their resources through the MHLS and NYS library system to help you get what you need. Although the website could be more accessible, it is a great resource and allows you to order books and even download audio books, as well as the ability to order braille books.
