Summary

The department of Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation aims to provide services to the city’s diverse community by assuring accessibility for all citizens to quality programs, public spaces, and parks. The Bayside Recreation Center strives for universal design and hosts a variety of inclusive programs. Physically, there is an accessible route of travel from the parking lot that leads to two sets of automatic doors for entry to the single floored building. While patronizing the facility, adaptive equipment promotes flexibly in use in areas such as the pool and cardio room. In regard to social inclusion, both building supervision and front line staff show continued support through learning and practice. A designated Inclusion Specialist is also on site and available to assist with specific requests as they arise.
