Equipment List

Equipment: Limitations with equipment (weight, size, etc.) How to access equipment
Horse & Pony Reins Adaptive Some reins can be a distraction. Reins are adjustable. If riders do not hold reins, it may droop down and cause the horse to trip if not leveled the correct way or get in the way of the rider. Some reins make it harder to steer the horse or pony. Rainbow Reins, Knotted Reins, Ladder Reins, Rubber Reins and Bike Reins. They also have thin rope reins, thick rope reins, as well as different textures they can wrap onto the reins (felt). These reins are very helpful and there is at least one rein that will work with the rider. Rainbow Reins are a great visual to see where one must hold their hands. The instructor may ask the rider to hold where green and orange come together. (reins can be adjusted) Knotted Reins are helpful for those who need to grip onto something thicker. These are similar to the rainbow reins, but are just knots. This is great for texture. Ladder reins are more of a loop in the reins. There are "rungs" that run across the reins that give the rider different holding positions. Rubber reins are round or flat and just are made of rubber Bike reins are two soft handles attached to both sides of the reins. You can clip them on and adjust to have short or longer reins. Can be found in the tack room.
Hand Holds Rider could still lean hands onto the saddle or not hold. Could easily forget it is there. Unable to steer with the hand hold. Can be left behind on saddle. The hand holds are for riders that do not want or cannot hold onto the reins. These also are useful to those riders that like to hold onto the saddle. The hand holds clip onto the saddle and do not lift high. It surfaces right above the saddle. Can be found in the tack room.
Break Away Stirrups/ Safety Stirrups These stirrups must be checked. One must make sure the stirrup leather is not ripping. Stirrups will not work if they are facing the wrong way while riding. Instructor must make sure the rubber band in faced outwards and not twisted while rider is on the horse. There is a rubber band that is attached to the stirrup that allows one to break away in an emergency situation. Pressure needs to be applied for it to break away. Can be found in the tack room
Hippo Helpers This does not support the head or neck. Not attached to the saddle. The Hippo Helper is adaptable equipment that stabilizes the trunk of the rider. This allows the therapist and side walkers to focus more on the rider. It assist upper extremity weight bearing. Adjustable to each rider, placed in the front of them, under their arms, and strapped around their back. Can be found in the tack room or by the crossties
Gait Belts Can vary on the usage due to riders height, weight, or medical reasoning. Assist riders to stabilize core mobility. Increase better riding posture. Consists of handles around the belt for easy grip for therapist or side-walker. This fits around the riders waist. Help assist therapist with mounting and dismounting rider. Can be found in the tack room or the crossties
Boppy Pillows Does not have that much cushion. Soft and thin. Can be used for different tasks. If rider was to lay head back on horses butt, it can be used as a softer cushion. Could be used rather than a hippo helper if they needed less support. Can be found in the tack room or the crossties
Handle Surcingle no reins are being used. could be difficult to stay centered and may be too hard of a handle for some. Instead of riding in a saddle, they will ride on a all purpose pad or a softer pad with a Handle Surcingle. Bigger and easier grip. This may be more comfortable for rider. Increase riders balance, posture, core strength and mobility. Better for weight bearing. Can cover hard bar with soft cushion. Can be found in the tack room
Grooming Supplies Having brushes go missing, put into another horses groom box, as well as placing the horses groom box out of order. There are multiple textures, handles, and sizes of the brushes used to groom the horse. These varieties of brushes will help riders have a better grip and participate in the grooming process. Can be found entering the barn on the side wall
Equicizer, IGallop, MiraColt Equicizer has wheels on the bottom, it is a harder surface, and must keep track of springs beginning to rust. Spring operated. IGallop must be plugged into the wall MiraColt must be plugged into the wall An Equicizer is a stimulation of the movement of a real horse. It has a head of a horse and it allows riders to practice. This can improve riders body posture, positioning on the horse, and overall fitness. The rider makes the "horse" move. IGallop and the MiraColt both stimulate the movement of a real horse. These need to be plugged in to operate. This can improve riders body posture, positioning on the horse, and overall fitness. Can be found in training room, therapy room, or right next to the main entrance of the indoor arena.
