Summary

Thornden Park is a 76-acre park located next to the Syracuse University Campus. The Haskin family originally purchased it in 1854 as farmland. In 1873, Major Alexander Davis acquired the land and planted shrubs and a variety of vegetation that is still present today. The city purchased the land in 1921 and has added such features as the E. M. Mills Rose Garden, the pool, and the amphitheatre. The park is a popular place for runners and walkers as well as those who want to play any type of recreational sport in the many open areas. It is also well known for its excellent views and many special events that often feature the spectacular Rose Garden.
