Summary
The staff of the Utica Public Library is dedicated to providing a wide variety of services to the residents of the Utica area and beyond. The collection encompasses over 250,00 items including 149,000 Adult, Young Adult and Children's books; videos and DVDs; audio books on tape and CD; musical CDs; genealogy and related materials; state and local histories; civil service test study guides; large print books, and much, much more.
Fully automated, visitors may access the Library's collection, as well as the collections of other member libraries, and selected local colleges, through any of the computers located in the Library's main lobby or the Children’s Room. The Library will borrow materials from other libraries for patrons who need items that are not in the Library’s collection. Specialized databases are available for online research through the Library’s website: magazine index, newspaper index, literature, business and health.
A twelve-work station computer classroom was developed with grants from Weed and Seed through the HomeOwnership Center, Utica National and Partners Trust. Classes concerning computer basics, using the Internet, establishing email accounts, work processing and online job searching are scheduled on a rotating basis. These classes are free and open to the public. Pre-registration is required.
The Utica Public Library offers many other services, including: tours for groups; a Community Advancement Resource Center with grant and foundation information; an art gallery for artists and crafts people to exhibit their work; extensive programs for children and their families and meeting space for community organizations.
