Shady Brook Farm

Shady Brook Farm is located in Yardley, PA and is a family-friendly farm with seasonal offerings. The parking to access the farm is housed in a large, unpaved field with no designated parking spaces, potentially making it difficult to navigate.

Sharpe Reservation’s 2,300 acres is the site of the Fresh Air Fund’s five summer camps. During the rest of the year, three of the camps serve as residential facilities for school groups, serving over 10,000 children who attend to learn about the environment. Groups also make use of the Sharpe Reservation Environmental Center, Gufstation Planetarium, high and low ropes courses, and the numerous nature trails the reservation provides.

According to the agency's website: "Shepphard Hills was originally part of the estate of Helen Gould Shepard, daughter of railroad magnate Jay Gould, a Roxbury native son. Construction of the 9-hole facility began around 1916. Upon the death of Finley Shepard, the property was deeded to their daughter, Helen Anna, and remained in the family until 1972 when it was sold to a private developer. At that time the course was leased to the Shephard Hills Golf Association becoming a membership-driven organization open to the public. Longtime Shephard Hills golfer Frank Adamiak purchased the course in 2000 and now oversees its operation.The nine-hole course offers challenging terrain with spectacular mountain views. The full service clubhouse and pro shop are located in the estate’s former guesthouse, a remarkable stone structure commissioned by the Gould family in 1911. Sheppard hills offers their restaurant, the Shephard Hills Tavern, and is open during the golf season for lunch and dinner, specializing in pub food. They also feature a full-service bar with all your favorite beers, wines and mixed drinks. The offer a 9 hole course, golf lessons, memberships, leagues and golf tournaments. This 50 acre site features beautiful formal and informal gardens, a historic mansion, the Lord & Burnham greenhouse complex and beautiful views of Canandaigua Lake.Sonnenberg's magnificent Queen Anne style mansion, the former summer home of Frederick Ferris and Mary Clark Thompson, was built in 1887. The surrounding gardens were developed between 1902 and 1920 and reflect a variety of styles, including Victorian, Italian, Colonial, and Japanese influences.

South Abington Community Park

The South Abington “Rec” Park is located at 642 Northern Boulevard, adjacent to the South Abington Elementary School. Many groups use the athletic fields for various events, such as softball, t-ball, little league practice, soccer. Basketball courts, adjusted seasonally for lights, are available. A childrens' playground, updated during the summer of 2014, is a popular feature year round, as is the Walking Trail which starts at the Basketball Court and ends at Layton Road. There are two covered bridges along this trail. The trail is used by many throughout the region, and is decorated during the holiday season along with the remainder of the Park. All dog walkers are asked to pick up a “doggie bag”, compliments of Abington Veterinary Referral Center, before you begin your walk. In the summer months, the renowned “Splash Park” is operational, weather permitting. There is also a picnic pavilion; reservations are not accepted. The Township operates on a first come, first serve basis. There are also newly installed handicap accessible bathrooms. The Park is also available to groups for events such as flea markets and car shows. The Park is open dawn through 11:00 PM, and rules are posted at the entrance.
