Chenango Valley State Park

Chenango Valley State Park, located near Binghamton, NY, is an ice age wonder. Its two lakes, Lily and Chenango, were created when the last glacier retreated and left behind huge chunks of buried ice which melted to form the lakes and bog. Birdwatchers may glimpse woodpeckers, nut hatches, warblers and thrushes along woodland trails and herons, ducks and kingfishers lakeside. Fishermen will find trout, bass, perch and bullhead in Chenango Lake. Campers can choose from among 216 campsites and 24 cabins and golfers will appreciate the 18-hole golf course. Ice skating, sledding and cross-country ski trails attract visitors in winter. The Edge Trail may be accessible for most users.

According to the agency website: "Located in Chenango Valley State Park in scenic Broome County, the original 9-hole course, known as Riverside Golf Course, was designed by engineer James Evans and landscape architect Laurie Cox and constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. In 1967 the course was redesigned by Hal Purdy and expanded to 18 holes. It offers players many challenges from tight, irrigated tree-lined fairways to rolling terrain, undulating greens, and difficult approach shots.

Chenango Valley State Park Towpath Trail

The Towpath Trail at Chenango Valley State Park is a six-mile in total long trail that is located near the swimming area. This trail is a part of the NYS Birding Trail which offers patrons of the park to listen and see various bird species including Bald Eagles. This is a coveted trail at this park because of it's flat nature and the milege as well as the different bird species you can usually find along your way. This trail, and all the other ones at the park, are not maintained by park staff whether it is off or during the main season. Thier could possible be small holes, tree limbs, loose gravel, mud, puddles, and other obstructions that cause it to be less accessible than show in this assessment. Regardless, this is a great trail for anyone who wants to get out in nature regardless of ability.

Anglers fish for bass, bullheads and pickerel and may also ice fish in winter.

Chris Green Lake is a beautiful body of water located in Charlottesville, Virginia. The lake is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor day, during daylight hours. In order to fish at the lake an individual must hold a Virginia State Fishing License. An ample supply of sunfish, channel catfish, and largemouth bass are stocked at the lake. The fishing pier is wheel chair accessible. There is a fishing area near the entrance of the pier on both sides that is wheelchair accessible. If your are using a boat the boat must meet U.S. Coast Guard requirements. Gasoline powered motors prohibited. Electric motors are allowed. The lake also has a canoe launch that is very popular during the summer months.
